Old Town Spring: The Heart of Texas Live Music

Old Town Spring is located just north of Houston, TX. This charming historic district is one of the best destinations in the area for one to “sip and shop” their afternoon away. It is well known for its small and independently owned shops, unique boutiques (how’s that for a rhyme?), and fantastic restaurants. It is also known as a hub for the best live music and entertainment for the The Woodlands, Houston, and Spring areas. From intimate indoor performances, and patio concerts, to outdoor festivals and band showcases, the area offers fun for every music lover.
Old Town Spring Live Music Venues
MB Speakeasy

Our first music venue to showcase in Old Town Spring is MB Speakeasy. This cozy “Speakeasy” style venue features a small stage with an astounding variety of live musicians nearly every day of the week. Up-and-coming local artists, singer-songwriters, and music of nearly every genre are the mainstays of music at MB Speakeasy. Every gig at MB Speakeasy is sure to feature a set list of music worth having a cocktail with. MB Speakeasy is known for its intimate atmosphere and hand-crafted cocktails, making it the perfect spot for an evening of live music. They even serve light food options, such as guacamole, pizzas, and hummus. Be sure to check out their website for their calendar of upcoming shows. MB Speakeasy is located at 419 Gentry in the same building as The Doll Hospital. It’s easy to identify from the barber pole for the barbershop next door. The Speakeasy bar has a frequently updated menu of classic cocktails and, of course, custom drinks to order. The service provided by their amazing bartenders is second to none, making this Old Town Spring location a must-stop.
Plane and Level

Next, we have Plane and Level. This venue is located in the heart of Old Town Spring at 203 Midway. Plane and Level is mainly a Spanish Tapas restaurant, but they nearly always have an artist playing outside to help attract curious customers and wine drinkers. It actually has two interior sections to enjoy wine and tapas, but also a spacious outdoor deck area for people to enjoy the live music which is usually jazz and/or Spanish influenced. It is a great place to “wine down” for dinner and enjoy great food and great music.
The Track Shack
For those who love to dance and sing along to live music, The Track Shack is the place to be. This lively outdoor venue features live country music songs practically every day, but it is hard to find a complete list of things going on. We suggest stopping by their Facebook page to see what’s happening.
The Loose Caboose
The Loose Caboose uses an old train caboose as its kitchen to serve “festival” style foods such as funnel cake, fried Oreos, and more (in addition to their spread of BBQ, burgers, and more). On Saturdays, they almost always feature a live musician on their porch to entertain guests and passersby.
Outdoor Festivals in Old Town Spring

Old Town Spring also features Preservation Park, a large grassy area perfect for holding music festivals and larger events. Unfortunately, the Spring Crawfish Festival which was an annual mainstay of Preservation Park has been canceled since the pandemic of 2020. It used to feature live music from local and regional acts, as well as its namesake crawfish, ice-cold beer, and plenty of vendors, games, and other food options. It was certainly an event that the entire community looked forward to each April.
That said, there are plenty of other outdoor festivals that occur throughout the year, nearly all of which are family-friendly. The Old Town Spring Wine and Art Festival takes place in September and features live music, wine tastings, and food from local vendors. Patrons can enjoy gourmet foods, hear live music, shop at vendor booths, and consider the work of talented Texas artists showcasing their creations in photography, clothing, hand-made jewelry, paintings, and crafts.

Many businesses in Old Town Spring will host their own special events, such as the Speakeasy Themed “Gangsters and Gatsby Dance Party” at MB Speakeasy. Guests were encouraged to dance to the sound of their favorite 20s and 30s duds while dancing the night away with a Speakeasy DJ Jack Shellac spinning records of the era. There were even dance instructors there, so everyone could learn era moves such as The Lindy Hop and Charleston. Or, MB Speakeasy also features an acoustic open mic where performers can play their favorite original or cover song for a warm crowd.
